Second Gen Swap Kit – what is it? The Second Gen Swap Kit simply means that you change some parts around on your Third Gen Common Rail 5.9 so that the turbo is mounted centered in the same location as it did in a Second Generation truck from 1994-2002. If you have been intimate with your truck, you know that the stock charger is mounted low and under cylinders five and six. Although this location works and everything fits, it does leave some performance to be gained by changing things up a bit. The Second Gen manifold is divided, meaning the cylinders are paired, 1-3 go to one port, and 4-6 the other. This gives you better performance by matching the exhaust pulses and minimizing turbulence when opposing cylinders are firing. Additionally, by running a center mounted turbo, you will have equalized drive pressures leading to a more balanced Exhaust Gas Temperature.
The kit begins by center mounting the turbo using a divided T4 Billet Steed Speed manifold engineered for performance in conjunction with the industry standard S400 based turbo line. You can choose “No Turbo” if you already have your favorite S400 turbo, just make sure your turbine outlet is machined to a 4.0” HX40 style flange. You can go with AGP's very popular Z463/Z464 cast wheel turbo or choose one of AGP’s S400 based Z product line with billet wheels, 360 thrust bearings, and positive o ring sealed covers. Turbine housing A/R can be chosen from .90 to 1.25 to perfectly match your engine setup. The exhaust manifold is tapped for EGT and Drive Pressure monitoring, simply remove the preinstalled plugs and thread in your favorite sensors. The charge pipe is also 304 stainless that goes from the compressor discharge to your intercooler coupler.
We include an aluminum 5” short ram air intake for the turbo combined with a huge S&B filter so every bit of air makes its way to the turbo. The exhaust exits via our 4” diameter stainless midpipe which ends in the stock location for the 04.5-07. All silicone couplers, clamps, gaskets, oil lines, water plugs (if applicable) and hardware is included in this kit for a straightforward installation. 03-04 Trucks will receive an additional downpipe.
We offer mirror polishing on the compressor housing and ceramic coating on the manifold, turbine housing, and midpipe. The polishing is for looks and the ceramic coating is for looks and performance. Although we’ve never been able to run a measurable back to back performance test, the drop in underhood temperatures when the exhaust components are coated provides a cooler charge air which leads to denser airflow and cooler EGTs in theory.
What turbo should I choose? This becomes the million dollar question and one that keeps you up late nights losing sleep over. If you have a manual truck, we are always going to recommend the smallest turbo we offer, which would be a S463 in a .90 A/R. If your truck is an auto, most setups we'll recommend a Z463 or Z467.7 both in .90 housings for the 5.9. If you have a 6.7, the Z467.7 .90 is an awesome turbo if you tow a lot. For a heavily fueled 6.7, the Z472 in a 1.0 could be a real killer for a hot rod truck.
- Optional T51R Mod is where we plug and then CNC machine the inlet of the compressor housing to amplify the turbo whine and whistle. Keep in mind this modification is done after the order is placed and typically ads a week or two before the order is shipped. However, sometimes it can take longer and maybe even up to 4 weeks. If you have ordered other finishing options like ceramic or polishing, it may add additional time on top of the typical 2-3 weeks before your order ships. Because of the labor intensive work and machine time needed, there can be delays beyond what we quote. S400 Second Gen Swap
I couldn’t find a whole lot of reviews on this kit when I was searching so I figured I would leave an honest review. Fitment and finish of this product is awesome! Everything went together very smoothly. They forgot to send me an oil feed line fitting, but they got me one shipped out same day I found out it was missing. Their customer service is amazing, they answered any questions I had and in a relatively timely manner. I have a stock fuel 06 5.9 but I plan to go bigger fuel system later. So I opted to get their 467.7/83.90AR it spools surprisingly well on a stock fuel 5.9. GET THE T51R MOD! Don’t think about it just do it. It sounds amazing! Thank you AGP for an awesome product and an awesome experience!

Charge pipes
Only issue I had was that my charge pipe was 1/2 in too long. (Intercooler side) I had to cut and reflair the end.
